Refugio El Pilar and the Old RoadDeze pagina in Nederlands
The Refugio El Pinar is a picnic, barbecue area and camping area. It is also the start of the Route of the Volcanoes walk.
The picnic and barbecue area is popular with Palmeros who live in the towns of La Palma. They meet here to eat, drink, talk, play, sing and generally enjoy themselves. There is an adequate supply of wood available for the many barbecues.

The 'old road' is one of the most picturesque driving routes on the island, leading you from close to the tunnel on the west side of the Cumbre to San Isidrio on the eastern side. This was the only route over the Cumbre before the tunnel was built.
