El Fayal, PuntagordaDeze pagina in Nederlands
The road leading North from El Pinar, Puntagorda, leads to the protected forest area "El Fayal". This forest is one of the few remaining parts if the Canrian Pine forest which covered most of the westerm side of La Palma. Much of the area was deforested for the wood for carpentry, as a fuel amd for charcoal making. Cutting down Pine trees is now illegal on La Palma.
El Fayal is a forested area on the edge of Barranco de Izcagua which divides Puntagorda from Garafia.
There is a football field (hard surface) hidden in the woods, and a picnic area Refugio El Fayal with barbecues, tabels and benches. This is very popular with Palmeros on Saturdays and Sundays.
Camping is NOT allowed in this area.
Every weekend there is a popular farmers market. More information Mercadillo de Puntagorda
