| Het gebied onder Puntagorda heeft een totaal verschillend karakter dan rond het dorp. De lager gelegen gebieden zijn warmer en zonniger, een enkele keer kan er zeemist ontstaan. De kust is steil, de kliffen zijn een beschermd natuurgebied. Er zijn slechts enkele huizen in dit gebied vanwege de strenge plannings wetten. Jammer, want de huizen en vakantiehuizen in dit gebied hebben adembenemend mooi uitzicht. Het land is nauwelijks in gebruik, op enkele stukken landbouwgebied na. Er zijn hier veel valken te zien. |

Preparations are being made for the Fiesta de Matos, Puntagorda. Wine, food and dance from the afternoon until late in the evening.
It is a very steep climb to the top of this hill, but once there there is a good view of the coast and the hills of this corner of La Palma. |

Hidden away in a gorge in Puntagorda is an example of one of La Palma's little 'secrets'.
All over the island there are caves which have been hollowed out, sometimes with doors and windows where the grapes are pressed, wine made and sometimes there is even a clandestine still for making Aguadiente (the local firewater). Most importantly they are place to gather with family and friends and relax and eat and drink.
A good cave can add considerably to the price of a property. |
